On June 10 th each year, the Argentina Nation remembers the creation date of the "Militar and Political command of the Malvinas Islands and the adjacent islands to the Cabo de Hornos in the Atlantic ocean"
That same day in 1829, by a decree signed by the acting governor Brigadier General Martin Rodriguez, the first Argentine governor of the Islands was designated.
The designated person was Luis Vernet, who at the time was working in the colonization of the Puerto Soledad.
From its beginning as a free and independent nation, our country exteriorized through different acts of the government, the political will to practise efective sovereignty over the southern territories and maritime spaces inherited from Spain. This practice was interrupted in 1833, when british forces occupied the island, and expelled its population and established argentina authorities.
The argentina nation nor its population have agreed with this acts of force and occupation, and to this day they ratify its inalienable determination of getting back the sovereignty over the Islas Malvinas, Georgias del Sur and Sandwich del Sur, through the peaceful way of dialogue and diplomatic negotiation.
The claim of the Republica Argentina has been supported by several countries of our region as well as important organisms, inlcuding the General Meeting of the United Nations and the General Meeting of the Organization of American States.
