It opened in 1989 and it is built over an old market, manteining the original columns and portico.

In addition to alternative theater spaces, it has two totally equipped theaters: Pablo Neruda theater, with 520 seats, and Pablo Picasso theater, with 440 seats, which each year receive over 350.000 theater goers.

The variety in themes and genres in the theater offer ensures and summons hundreds of thousands tourists and locals.

Se trata de un centro cultural y comercial que reúne teatros, bares, restaurantes, centro de convenciones, estacionamiento y paseo de compras.

Se inauguro en el año 1989 y esta construido sobre un antiguo mercado manteniendo columnas y pórticos de su construcción original.

Además de espacios teatrales alternativos, cuenta con dos teatros totalmente equipados: la Sala Pablo Neruda con 520 butacas y la Sala Pablo Picasso con 440 butacas que cada año reciben más de 350.000 espectadores teatrales.

La variedad de temáticas y géneros en propuestas teatrales aseguran atraer, convocar y cautivar a cientos de miles de turistas y lugareños.

National Capital of the Galciers.

The Calafate is 320 km away from the city of Rio Gallegos, capital of the province of Santa Cruz, and 3065 km away from the City of Buenos Aires.

The city is located on the base of the homonym hill, on the south margins of the lake Argentino and taked its name from a little bush (calafate) of small leaves with small flowers and purple fruits.

It has an international airport, situated 23 km from the city, inaugurated in november of 2000, and it allows to have direct flights from Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, Puerto Madryn, Trelew, Bariloche and Puerto Natales (Chile)

The Calafate is the access door to the National Park Los Glaciares. In the park area there are excursions to the glaciers. Some that stand out are: the Perito Moreno, the minitrekking and Big Ice on that same glacier, the Todo Glaciares navigation, going through the canals of the Lago Argentino, visiting huge glaciers Upsala, Spegazzini, Onelli and Mayo, among others. 

In the surroundings of the Lago Argentino, many activities are organized, such as visits to the touristic farms, crossing the Cerros Frias and Huyliche in 4x4, horseback riding, visits to the ecologic reservation og Nimez lagoon and walks on the Roca lake.

The city offers its visitors hotels of every category, a great varierty of restaurants and a big commercial area.

Capital Nacional de los Glaciares

El Calafate se encuentra a 320 km de la Ciudad de Río Gallegos, Capital de la Provincia de Santa Cruz y a 3065 km de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires.

La Ciudad esta emplazada al pie del cerro homónimo, sobre la margen sur del lago Argentino y toma su nombre de un pequeño arbusto (calafate) de hojas pequeñas con flores amarillas y frutos morados.

Cuenta con un Aeropuerto Internacional situado a 23 km de la ciudad, inaugurado en noviembre del 2000, y permite realizar vuelos directo desde Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, Puerto Madryn, Trelew, Bariloche y Puerto Natales (Chile).

El Calafate es la puerta de acceso al Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. En el área del Parque se realizan las excursiones a los glaciares, entre los que se destaca el Perito Moreno, el minitrekking y Big Ice sobre el mismo glaciar, la navegación Todo Glaciares recorriendo los canales del lago Argentino, visitando los inmensos glaciares Upsala, Spegazzini, Onelli y Mayo entre otros.

En los alrededores del lago Argentino se organizan una gran variedad de actividades, destacándose las visitas a estancias turísticas, travesías en 4x4 a los Cerros Frías y Huyliche, cabalgatas de diversa duración, visitas a la reserva ecológica de laguna Nimez y caminatas en el lago Roca.

La Ciudad ofrece a sus visitantes hoteles de todas las categorías,  una gran variedad de alternativas gastronómicas y un amplio centro comercial.
