 ARGENTINE
CURRENCY.
The peso ($) is the legal tender in Argentina.
The peso can be issued in notes of 2, 5, 10,
20, 50 and 100 pesos; in coins of 1, 5, 10,
25, 50 cents and 1 peso.
The American dollar is the widely-known international
currency. It is accepted in almost all commerce
stores, but is convenient to change them into
pesos in foreign exchange offices or banks.
Banco Ciudad offers a special service for
tourists in the brand office in Cordoba Avenue
600, between Florida and Maipú, in
the Downtown.
The market price of the dollar is not rigid,
it is allowed to change under market rules.
Today the relationship between dollar and
pesos is $AR 3.09 and $AR3.12 per each US
dollar. This high currency becomes Buenos
Aires in a very convenient destiny to buy
very high level products at very cheap prices.
It is possible to find automatic cash dispensers
(ATMs) in all the City. In
general, the daily available amount to extract
money is about a thousand pesos (about 330
U$S).
Only in some commerce stores are accepted
travellers cheques. The smallest
stores don’t accept them, so tourists
are obligated to go to banks or exchange houses
to change them.
The mayority of the credit cards
are accepted with no problem in almost restaurants,
bars and commerce stores. However, it is possible
to pay an extra charge in the final price,
or don't have a discount that can be obtained
by paying in cash.

ARGENTINA.
La moneda de curso legal en la República
Argentina es el Peso ($).-
El peso argentino se emite en billetes de
2, 5, 10, 20, 50, y 100; en monedas de 1,
5, 10, 25, 50 centavos y 1 peso.-
El dólar estadounidense es la moneda
internacional de mayor difusión. Es
aceptado en la mayoría de los comercios,
pero conviene hacer la conversión a
pesos en casas de cambio o en bancos.
El Banco Ciudad ofrece un servicio especial
para turistas en su sucursal de Av. Córdoba
al 600 entre Florida y Maipú en pleno
centro de la Ciudad.
La cotización del dólar es flotante.
Al cierre de esta edición oscilaba
entre $AR3,09 y $AR3,12 por cada dólar
estadounidense. Esta alta cotización
transforma a la Ciudad de Buenos Aires en
un excelente destino para comprar productos
de primera calidad a precios increíbles.
Es posible encontrar cajeros automáticos
en toda la Ciudad. En general el monto diario
disponible para extraer dinero es de mil pesos
argentinos.
Sólo en algunos comercios de la Ciudad
se aceptan cheques de viajero.-
Los pequeños negocios no los aceptan,
por lo cual nuestros visitantes se verán
obligados a acudir a bancos o casas de cambio
en donde pueden cambiarlos.
La mayoría de las tarjetas
de crédito son aceptadas sin
inconvenientes en casi todas las tiendas,
bares y restaurantes de la Ciudad. Sin embargo
es posible sufrir algún recargo en
el precio o no contar con un posible descuento
que podría obtener por pagar al contado.

Design:
Design Festival
Organized by the CMD, will be realized
from October 12 to October 29th in different
points of the Buenos Aires City. The event
will show projects and concepts that join
design, knowledge and community. There will
be instalations, exhibitions, workshops, seminars,
desing circuits, conferences, interdisciplinary
events and new products. More than 180 designers
of many disciplines will expose their works
in " The Dorrego ".

Every Thursday at the San Martin Cultural
Center continues a free Tango programming.
The tickets can be retired at ticket office
with two hours of anticipation. The functions

Diseño:
Festival de Diseño
Organizado por el CMD, se realizará
del 12 al 29 de octubre en distintos puntos
de la Ciudad. El evento mostrará
proyectos y conceptos que unen al diseño,
el conocimiento y la comunidad. Habrá
instalaciones, exposiciones, workshops,
seminarios, circuitos de diseño,
conferencias, eventos interdisciplinarios
y lanzamientos de productos. Más
de 180 diseñadores de todas las disciplinas
expondrán sus trabajos en “El
Dorrego”.

Los jueves de tango del Centro Cultural
San Martín continúan con su
programación gratuita. Las entradas
se retiran en boletería con dos horas
de anticipación. Las funciones se

Opera:
Boris Godunov
From 17/10, the Colon theatre will present
eight Boris Godunov's functions of the Russian
composer Modest Mussorgsky, offering for the
first time in Argentina and in the whole South
America the original version released in 1874.
It will be the last opera that will offer
in the Principal Room before the closing for
the works of restoration. This master work
is considered to be a real national drama
because portrays the royal history of XVIIth
century of czar Boris Godunov, who received
the crown after the death of the inheritor
of the throne, under mysterious circumstances.
Days: 17, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, y 28 October.

A partir del 17/10, el Colón presentará
ocho funciones de Boris Godunov del compositor
ruso Modest Mussorgsky, ofreciendo por primera
vez en Argentina y en toda Sudamérica
la versión original estrenada en
1874.Será la última ópera
que se ofrecerá en la Sala Principal
antes del cierre para las obras de restauración.
Este obra es considerada un verdadero drama
nacional porque retrata la historia real
en el siglo XVII del zar Boris Godunov,
que llegó al poder ante la muerte
del heredero del trono, bajo circunstancias
misteriosas. Funciones: 17, 20, 21, 22,
24, 25, 26, y 28 de octubre. Entradas desde
$5.

El Obelisco (The Obelisk)
Neighborhood: Down
Town
The Obelisk -one of the emblems of Buenos
Aires- is located in the Republic Square,
in the intersection of Corrientes Avenue and
9 de Julio Avenue, in the exact location where
the Argentine flag was hoisted for first time,
in the Downtown.
It was build in the 30s, on the occasion when
was being celebrated the fourth centenary
of the first foundation of the city.
It was designed by the Argentinian architect
Alberto Presbich.- It only lasted 31 days
to its building. It was in charge of Siemens
Bauunion and began on March 20, 1936, finishing
on May 23 ,1936. It costed 200.000 pesos,
the legal currency tender in Argentina.

Barrio Centro
El Obelisco -uno de los emblemas de la Ciudad
de Buenos
Aires- se encuentra emplazado en la Plaza
de la República, en la intersección
de las Avenidas Corrientes y 9 de Julio, en
el sitio exacto donde flameó por primera
vez la Bandera Argentina, en el Centro
de la Ciudad.
Fue construido en la década del '30,
con motivo de celebrarse el cuarto centenario
de la primera fundación de la ciudad.
Fue diseñado por el arquitecto argentino
Alberto Presbich.- Se tardo solo 31 días
para su construcción. La obra estuvo
a cargo de Siemens Bauunion y comenzó
el 20 de marzo de 1936, finalizando el 23
de mayo de ese mismo año. Su costo
fue de 200.000 pesos moneda nacional. |

It
weights 170 tons, it is 67,5 metres tall,
and has 49 square metres on its base. Were
used 680 cubic metres of concrete and 1360
square metres of withe rock from Córdoba
to its building.
It has only one entry. In its summit there
are four windows, to which only it is possible
to come for a straight stairs of 206 steps.
Each one of its four faces remember a historical
fact: the first foundation of the City, in
1536; the second and definitive, in 1580;
the first time the National Flag was hoisted
in the City; and the constitution of Buenos
Aires like the capital of the Argentine
Republic.

Pesa 170 toneladas,
mide 67,5 metros de alto y tiene 49 metros
cuadrados de base. Para su construcción
se utilizaron 680 m³ de cemento y 1360
m² de piedra blanca traída de
la provincia
de Córdoba.
Tiene una sola puerta de entrada.- En su cúspide
hay cuatro ventanas, a las que sólo
se puede llegar por una escalera recta de
206 escalones.
Cada una de sus cuatro caras recuerda un hecho
histórico porteño: la primera
fundación de la Ciudad, en 1536; la
segunda y definitiva, en 1580; la primera
vez que se izó la Bandera Nacional
en la Ciudad; y la constitución de
Buenos Aires como capital de la República
Argentina. |

After some detachments, the coating stone
was removed and replaced by a pulished concrete
one.
Since its opening, this symbol is a witness
of innumerable manifestations of Argentinian
expression.

Luego de algunos desprendimientos, en el
año 1938 se eliminó el revestimiento
de piedra y se lo reemplazó por uno
de cemento pulido.
Desde su inauguración, este símbolo
porteño por excelencia, es testigo
de innumerables manifestaciones de argentinidad. |
