 URBAN
GUARD.
"La Guardia Urbana" or Urbane Guard,
is a non armed official body that consists
on men and women specially trained to act
and mediate between any conflicts on the public
way, preventing illegal actions.
Depends of the Buenos Aires city's government
and does not replace the local police security
forces. This official corp works in coordination
with another government departments, like
Medical Emergency (SAME), the Firefight Men
Department, Defensa Civil, and Federal Police.
It works in all Buenos Aires city territory,
every day during the whole year.
It is in charge of detecting situations of
risk and emergency in the streets, controlling
green spaces and collaborating with the traffic
by making educative and preventive functions.
It helps the public security. The corp objective
is to protect and guaranty the people security
and their goods.
Indeed helps to orient the foreign tourists.
Counts with bilingual urban guards in all
tourist places that can help you giving information
or orientation on any conflict that you could
have during your stay in the city. |

GUARDIA
URBANA.
La Guardia Urbana es un cuerpo civil no armado
integrado por hombres y mujeres especialmente
capacitados para actuar y mediar frente a
conflictos en la vía pública
y prevenir delitos.
Depende del gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos
Aires y no reemplaza a las fuerzas de seguridad.
Trabaja a la par de ellas y en conjunto con
otros organismos del Estado tales como el
Servicio de Emergencias Médicas (SAME),
los Bomberos, la Defensa Civil y/o la Policía
Federal Argentina.
Actúa en todo el territorio de la Ciudad
de Buenos Aires, todos los días del
año y durante las 24 horas.
Se ocupa de detectar situaciones de riesgo
y emergencia en las calles, de controlar los
espacios verdes y de colaborar con el ordenamiento
del tránsito cumpliendo funciones educativas
y preventivas. Contribuye a la seguridad pública.
Su objetivo es proteger y garantizar la seguridad
de las personas y de los bienes.
Para orientar a los turistas extranjeros,
cuenta con guardias urbanos bilingües
en todos los corredores turísticos
que le podrán brindar información
o ayuda por cualquier conflicto que tenga
en la ciudad. |

of the German movies. This year 10 new films

It assembles works of Latin-American artists
who during the last 30 years have been employed
at diverse technichs the topic of the missing
persons at times of the dictatorships that
they destroyed they countries in the second
half of the XXth century. Exposed Until October

Borges
More than 100 photographies invite to a new
approximation to the world of Borges of trips
album that had not been exhibited from more
than 20 destinies which only he could have
perceived them. The fair is based on the book
Atlas, which he was writing in collaboration
with Kodama 22 years ago, and shows the couple
intimacy during the trips on different countries
from this universal teacher with his young
pair.

Reúne obras de artistas latinoamericanos
que durante los últimos 30 años
han trabajado en diversas técnicas
el tema de la desaparición de personas
en tiempos de las dictaduras que asolaron

Más de 100 fotografías de
álbum de viajes que no habían
sido exhibidas, invitan a un nuevo acercamiento
al mundo de Borges, y a más de 20
destinos del modo en que sólo él
pudo haberlos percibidos.
La muestra está basada en el libro
Atlas, que escribiera en colaboración
con Kodama 22 años atrás,
y recorre la intimidad de los viajes por
distintos países que realizó
uno de los maestros universales de las letras
junto a su joven enamorada.

Neighborhood: San
Telmo
The “Plaza Dorrego” is located
in the heart of San Telmo neighbourhood, at
the intersection of Humberto I street and
Defensa street.
Together with Recoleta neighborhood and the
pedestrian streets Caminito, Florida and Lavalle,
they make the principal walking areas for
tourists in Buenos Aires.
Founded in 1586, Plaza Dorrego is recognised
as one of the oldest parks in the city.
Its name has changed several times. At first,
it was known as "Alto de las Carretas",
because carriages coming from the "Riachuelo"
stopped there on their way to the center of
the city.
Later, its name changed to "Plaza del
Comercio" because by 1820 it served as
the city's main comercial center.
Reciently, in 1905, its name change again
to what it is known as today.
In 1978, it was declared a National Historic
Monument, in 1816, the people of Buenos Aires
joined the declaration of independence.
The plaza is sorrounded by buildings from
the late 19th and 20th centuries that still
maintain their original appearance. These
buildings house restaurantes, cafes, bars
and antique shops.

La Plaza Dorrego se encuentra en el corazón
del barrio de San Telmo, en el cruce de las
calles Humberto I y Defensa.
Constituye, junto con Caminito, la Recoleta
y las calles Florida y Lavalle, uno de los
principales paseos turísticos peatonales
de de la ciudad de Buenos Aires.
Fundada en 1586, es considerada uno de los
espacios verdes mas antiguos de la ciudad.
Cambió de nombre varias veces. Primero
se la conoció como Alto de las Carretas,
porque ahí se detenían las carretas
que venían del Riachuelo y se dirigían
al centro de la ciudad.
Años más tarde, se la llamó
Plaza del Comercio ya que por el año
1820 funcionaba allí el centro comercial
más importante de la ciudad.
Recién en 1905 recibió el nombre
que tiene en la actualidad.
En 1978 fue declarada Monumento Histórico
Nacional porque allí, en 1816, el pueblo
de Buenos Aires adhirió a la declaración
de la Independencia.
La Plaza se encuentra rodeada de edificios
de fines del siglo XIX y XX que manteniendo
su aspecto original, albergan restaurantes,
cafés, bares y casas de antigüedades. |

Paseando por la feria
de San Telmo
Since 1970, there has been a street fair
in the plaza. Advertisements in the newspaper
let vendors know when the fair will take
place. Today, it is a traditional trip that
thousands of tourists, domestic and foreign,
undertake while they are in the city.
On Sundays, in addition to the fair, there
are many street performances with tango
dancers, mimes, musical poets, singers,
and other artists .
In the fair, you can find antique record
players, used books, records, rare magazines,
important antiques, clothes of different
eras, tableclothes and embroidery.

Plaza Dorrego
El circuito de la feria de Plaza Dorrego,
funciona desde 1970. Todo empezó
con un aviso en el diario que convocaba
a interesados en vender antigüedades.
Hoy es un paseo tradicional visitado por
miles de turistas, nacionales e internacionales.
Los domingos, además de la Feria,
en la Plaza se dan cita distintos espectáculos
callejeros, bailarines de tangos, mimos,
payadores, cantantes y otros números
artísticos.
En la feria se pueden encontrar desde fonolas,
libros usados, discos de pasta y revistas
de colecciones agotadas, hasta valiosas
antigüedades, ropa de época,
mantillas y bordados.
